Patak's Discover the taste of India

The Patak's story

Patak's is the story of my family, starting with my grandfather L.G. Pathak. Born in 1925 to poor farmers in the Indian state of Gujurat, he came to Kenya after the death of his father, where the family hoped for a better life. They opened a small shop selling Indian sweets, mainly to the many Indian immigrants who yearned for local products.

In 1956, the political situation in Kenya changed and my grandfather moved to England with his family and £5 in his pocket. The only job he could find was as a sewer cleaner.
That's when my grandmother had the idea of making Indian sweets and snacks. She made them in her tiny little kitchen. Word got around. More and more customers came and soon my then 10-year-old father was delivering the goods all over London.
After a few years, my grandparents opened a small Indian grocery shop. They were very successful because they mainly sold only the best quality fresh food.

However, my grandfather owes his big breakthrough to a coincidence or, as he always said, a brilliant idea: when he had bought too many vegetables and couldn't sell them all, he decided to turn them into pickles. This became a bestseller. Next, he processed freshly ground spices with vegetable oil to make pastes with the right Indian flavour.
At that time, my father Kirit was already running the business and my mother Meena, a food technologist, was developing more and more natural-based products. This is how the popular Patak's sauces were created, which make Indian cooking so quick and easy and give the dishes their authentic flavour.
Patak's has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the UK's most successful brands - a name recognised by professional chefs and amateur cooks around the world. The brand is sold in over 40 countries and has established itself as an international brand leader.

Even today, my father's vision still holds true - to produce and sell high quality, authentic Indian food around the world.
