
Company history of Gustav Gerig AG
1923
The young Gustav Gerig sells his three grocery shops on Paradeplatz, Seestrasse and Plattenstrasse in Zurich and concentrates his activities on the wholesale food business.
1939
Imported foodstuffs are already generating a considerable turnover. During the war, the company's sales increase significantly. The warehouse, which had previously been moved to Gessnerallee 34, soon proves to be no longer sufficient. New and larger premises are found at Seefeldstrasse 104. The company also sets up its own packing plant for olives and capers.
1960
The expansion of the workforce and new company headquarters in Zurich bring new vigour to Gustav Gerig AG. The importance of the company and the turnover on imports from all over the world increase continuously. The rapid upswing in the 1960s prompts the company to build a warehouse outside Zurich in the municipality of Neuendorf SO.
1972
Further years of growth follow. In 1972, the Wertheimer family takes over Gustav Gerig AG. During the following years, further trading companies are acquired, the own brands Majestic and Raimond Frères are expanded, and well-known foreign brands and producers are added to the representation portfolio.
1991
In 1991, Gustav Gerig AG moves to its current premises at Hardturmstrasse 169 in the vibrant centre of Zurich-West.
1996
Growth continues unabated. Those in charge decide to outsource the logistics in order to better concentrate on the core competencies. In the same year, the next generation of the Leuzinger-Wertheimer family takes over the management of the company.
2013
With the realignment of Gustav Gerig AG under the current management, new international brand representations and Swiss speciality retailers such as Süsswaren-Vertriebs AG are acquired.
2017
The takeover of organic pioneer Leibundgut underlines the growing organic expertise of Gustav Gerig. Major investments are also made in IT and logistics.
2023
Gustav Gerig AG celebrates its impressive 100th anniversary by launching its new company logo and publishing a 60-page cookbook. Twenty authentic recipes showcase a cross-section of the versatile brand portfolio.
Today
Over the course of more than 100 years, Gustav Gerig AG has evolved into a modern marketing and sales organisation that brings food brands from all over the world to success in the Swiss retail and food service segment. A team of over 30 well-trained and highly motivated employees continues to live the passion of the founder day after day.
