Gustav Gerig corporate history
Gustav Gerig sells his three food stores at Paradeplatz, Seestrasse and Plattenstrasse in Zurich and concentrates on the food import and wholesale business.
The imported foods are already achieving impressive sales.
The company’s turnover rises strikingly during the war. The warehouse, which in the meantime had relocated to Gessnerallee 34, is soon no longer big enough. New, suitably sized premises are found at Seefeldstrasse 104. The company also establishes its own packing business for olives and capers.
An increase in the number of employees and new company headquarters in Zurich give Gustav Gerig AG new impetus. The company’s importance and sales of imports from all over the world continue to rise.
Rapid growth during the 1960s causes the firm to build a warehouse outside Zurich, in Neuendorf in the canton of Solothurn.
The Wertheimer family takes over Gustav Gerig AG. Other trading companies are subsequently purchased, own brands Majestic and Raimond Frères are developed and the company becomes the agent for renowned foreign brands and producers.
Gustav Gerig AG moves to its present premises at Hardturmstrasse 169, in Zurich’s vibrant west district.
Continued growth causes Gustav Gerig AG to outsource logistics to Lagerhäuser Aarau AG in order to be able to concentrate specifically on its core expertise. In the same year, the next generation of the Leuzinger-Wertheimer family assumes management of the company.
The new direction adopted by Gustav Gerig AG’s current management sees it take on new international agencies and Swiss speciality retailers. It invests heavily in IT and logistics.
